Niantic, Inc., the company that pioneered real world gaming and developed widely known augmented reality games such as Pokémon GO and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, has recently announced the the acquisition of the gaming community platform leader, Mayhem.
“We are delighted to welcome the team from Mayhem to Niantic!” Niantic stated on a Tweet. “Community is essential to us, and we are excited to continue to pioneer real world social experiences with them.”
According to Niantic, explorers create memories and make friends through their games, thus they are looking forward to working with Mayhem to augment such moments.
Although the acquisition was officially revealed by the company, they did not disclose the terms of the acquisition.
Get to Know Mayhem
Mayhem was founded by Ivan Zhou in 2017. The goal of the company was to bring gamers together through live, interactive experiences.
The team behind Mayhem are experts in designing social gaming experiences and they have the passion for online community building.
“I am excited to announce that Mayhem has been acquired by Niantic! The team will be joining Niantic to continue building new social experiences that will amplify and connect the global community of Niantic explorers,” wrote Ivan Zhou, the CEO and founder of Mayhem, on a blog post.
