Several Social Media Platforms Suspended President Trump’s Account, Twitch Included

US President Trump’s Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram Suspended

The Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram account of Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States of America, has been temporarily locked or suspended due to violations of the platforms’ policy.

Twitter Locked Trump’s Account

As for Twitter, the platform has recently announced that US President Donald Trump’s account will be locked for twelve (12) hours, but it has also made made mention the possibility that the president’s account could be permanently suspended should there be future violations.

Facebook Locked Trump’s Account

US President Donald Trump’s Facebook page has also been suspended. It was announced by the official Twitter account of the Facebook Newsroom. Based on the announcement, Trump’s page will be blocked for twenty four (24) hours.

Guy Rosen, Facebook’s VP of Integrity, on the other hand, also made a tweet baring other measures taken by the platform. According to him, they also removed a video of the US president.

Another announcement on Trump’s account being blocked has also been published by the Facebook CEO himself, Mark Zuckerberg, revealing that they are extending the block placed on the president’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.

“Over the last several years, we have allowed President Trump to use our platform consistent with our own rules, at times removing content or labeling his posts when they violate our policies. We did this because we believe that the public has a right to the broadest possible access to political speech, even controversial speech. But the current context is now fundamentally different, involving use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.

We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.”

And just recently, one of the world’s leading live streaming platforms, Twitch, has also released a statement saying that the official Twitch account of US President Donald Trump has also been suspended.

A Twitch spokesperson has reportedly stated that the platform has also disabled US President Donald Trump’s account. Here’s what the spokesperson told TechCrunch:

“In light of yesterday’s shocking attack on the Capitol, we have disabled President Trump’s Twitch channel. Given the current extraordinary circumstances and the President’s incendiary rhetoric, we believe this is a necessary step to protect our community and prevent Twitch from being used to incite further violence.

We are focused on minimizing harm leading up to the transition of government and will reassess his account after he leaves office.”

Twitch Removing PogChamp

Another move taken by Twitch was the removal of the PogChamp from the platform although they acknowledged that it has a big place in Twitch culture.

“We want the sentiment and use of Pog to live on – its meaning is much bigger than the person depicted or image itself– and it has a big place in Twitch culture. However, we can’t in good conscience continue to enable use of the image,” Twitch said on a tweet.
