Samsung has just released two flagship phones that are said to set the tone for this year’s innovation in the smartphone industry. Last year, Samsung released its smartphone innovation that opened a new category in the mobile phone industry, the Galaxy Fold. This year, Samsung has made that innovation into the Galaxy Z Flip.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
First to be introduced during the Unpacked event by Samsung in San Francisco is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. This foldable smartphone uses a bendable ultra-thin glass which was dubbed as something that “bends the laws of physics”. When unfolded, it reveals a 6.7″ screen.
The Key is in the Hinge
Galaxy Z Flip’s Hideaway Hinge is a work of engineering art. It’s backed by a dual CAM mechanism – small but sophisticatedly designed to ensure every flip and fold is smooth and stable. Galaxy Z Flip can stay open at a range of angles, like a laptop screen. The Hideaway Hinge system also integrates Samsung’s new sweeper technology, which uses nylon fibers crafted by micro-height-cutting technology to repel dirt and dust.
Things You Can Do With the Galaxy Z Flip
- Hands-free Selfie and More – with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flips capability to be folded halfway you can actually set it on top of a flat surface and take a selfie with its front camera. You can also do video chats through Messenger or Google Duo using this feature.
- No Tripod Timelapse – again, the folding capability of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip allows the other half to be its own stand giving you the chance to take a timelapse video with the rear camera without the need of a tripod, all you need is to fold it halfway and a flat surface.
- Flex Mode – this is a custom-built user experience feature that was designed by Samsung in close collaboration with Google. This works when the phone is free-standing, the screen splits into two 4 inch display allowing you to view videos, photos, and other content in the first half and control the same at the bottom half. You can watch YouTube in the first half of the screen and read descriptions of the video or comment using the other half.
