LinkedIn is testing ‘Stories’ feature for professionals

With the purpose to continuously meet its members where their voices are, LinkedIn is internally testing how a Stories feature will work in a platform for the business world.

According to Pete Davies, head of content products at LinkedIn, ” There are more conversations taking place in the LinkedIn feed than ever before, with a 25% year-over-year increase in engagement.” Hence, they are looking at adding stories which he said spread because ‘they offer a lightweight, fun way to share an update without it having to be perfect or attached to your profile forever.’

As they started testing LinkedIn Stories internally, the head of content products mentioned some reasons they’ve learned why Stories can be used professionally. Here are some of them:

  • The sequencing of the format is suitable for sharing key moments from work events;
  • The full-screen narrative style provides an easier way to share tips and tricks to help us work smarter;
  • The format opens up new messaging threads making it easier for someone to say hi and say “by the way… I noticed you know Linda, could you introduce me?”

Davies said that he’s excited about how stories will help LinkedIn members share more about their work life in a more creative and authentic way, which will lead to growing networks that are necessary for productivity and success.
