In the founder’s letter posted in their blog, Larry and Sergey compared Google to a person. When they started in 1998 Google was at it’s infancy and today, the company that they both built is now a young adult of 21 years. With that it is time to leave the roost. For Larry and Sergey it is also time to assume the role of proud parents offering advise and love but without the daily nagging.

With that founders letter, Larry Page and Sergey Brin has announced that they are stepping down as Alphabet’s CEO and President respectively. Alphabet is the company that they established as the mother company for Google, Android, Waymo and other products which has since become independent companies.

As Larry and Sergey steps down as CEO and President, they will not totally be out of Alphabet, they will continue to have active roles in the company as board members, shareholders and co-founders.

Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai will assume the role of CEO for both Google and Alphabet. The co-founders of Google have placed much confidence on Sundar following his meteoric rise to the executive level of the company. Sundar has worked closely with Larry and Sergey for 15 years and according to them ” Sundar brings humility and a deep passion for technology to our users, partners and our employees every day. “

Sundar, in his letter to Googlers have stated that the transition will not affect the structure of Alphabet nor will it affect their day to day work. Sundar in his letter intends to build on the strong foundation that the founders have established.
