In the recent announcement made by Google’s co-founder, Larry Page, via the Google Blog. He stated that He and his co-founder, Sergey Brin will be moving up to a new company that they created called Alphabet and leaving Sundar Pichai at Google’s helm.

For those who invested on Google, do not fret the Co-founders did not abandon ship but rather moved a level higher. As announced Alphabet is actually bigger company that will be managing several companies under it, including Google, at the helm of Alphabet is Larry Page as CEO and Sergey Brin as the President.

Alphabet’s purpose is to allow the founders more “management scale and let them run different companies that are not very related.” As you know Google has acquired and founded several other projects that are not really that related with Search, for example their health efforts with Calico and to allow the company to scale Alphabet will be installing strong CEO’s that will run the company.

To simply put it, Alphabet is now the parent company of a conglomerate with Google as one of the companies under it.

What About Google?

The founders of Google believes that the company they started is in good hands with Sundar Pichai. Larry Page stated in the blog that he has worked closely with Sundar for several years and that he and the board believes that Sundar is ready to take on the role of CEO for which is now a slimmed down Google. For the past years Sundar has been in the forefront of Google’s huge announcements and events including Google I/O. Which is proof that Google and its boards has all the confidence in him and his abilities.

C is for Conclusion

We could say that a new chapter in innovation has just opened with Alphabet. Another chapter opens for Google, this time much more focused on what they intended to do in the first place. One thing is certain in all of these founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin indeed would continue to do and bet on crazy things. They have stated it best by saying:

…expect us to make “smaller bets in areas that might seem very speculative or even strange when compared to our current businesses.”
