The Government of India said on a press release on Monday, June 29, 2020. That they are banning a total of Fifty Nine (59) mobile apps which they believe are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state, and public order.

Why the Gov’t of India Decided to Ban the Apps

According to the Press Information Bureau of the Government of India, their Ministry of Information Technology; the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs; and Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) have received complains from various sources and raising concerns from citizens regarding security of data and risk to privacy relating to operation of certain apps.

As stated by the Press Information Bureau. The Government of India has decided to disallow the usage of certain apps. These apps will not be allowed to be used in both mobile and non-mobile Internet-enabled devices.

According to them this move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users and ensure safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.

Which Apps to be Banned in India

Among the apps the Government of India is banning are some well known names such a TikTok, Mobile Legends, and Shareit.

With regards to what happened, the Head of Tiktok in India, Nikhil Gandhi,. Recently made a post which has been published on the official Twitter account of TikTok India. Here’s what Nikhil said in the tweet:
