FB Introduces their Additional Effort in Battling Misinformation: Forwarding Limit on Messenger

On September 3, 2020, the Facebook company introduced their latest effort when it comes to providing people with a safer and more private messaging experience – the forwarding limit on their messaging platform, Messenger. With this new feature, messages can only be forwarded to five people or groups at a time.

“Limiting forwarding is an effective way to slow the spread of viral misinformation and harmful content that has the potential to cause real world harm.

The company believes that it is critical to control the spread of misinformation, especially during these days when there are already loads content containing misleading or inaccurate messages or information that may lead to chaos.

“We are introducing a forwarding limit on Messenger to help curb the efforts of those looking to cause chaos, sow uncertainty or inadvertently undermine accurate information,” stated the Director of Product Management of Messenger Privacy and Safety.
