Facebook Temporarily Bans Medical Face Mask Ads

Last week, Facebook announced that advertisement and commerce listing selling medical face masks is temporarily banned. The social media giant also prohibited people from making health or medical claims related to the coronavirus in product listing on commerce surfaces.  This change is part of Facebook’s monitoring to keep people safe and informed about the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Facebook Director of Product Management Rob Leathern posted the update through a twitter post.

Instagram, which is also owned by Facebook, also shared the update on how to keep the Instagram Community safe from COVID-19. One of the updates is Instagram will remove known harmful misinformation related to COVID-19.

“Our teams are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and will make necessary updates to our policies if we see people trying to exploit this public health emergency.”, Facebook added. Also, Facebook has a dedicated channel for local government where they can share listings who have violated the law.
