Nintendo’s games and characters is apart of every gamer’s childhood. Who could forget the cute and powerful creatures of Pokemon and the exciting adventures of Super Mario? The Nintendo family grieves the death of Satoru Iwata, Nintendo CEO, who died last July 11 at 55 years old due to bile duct tumor. Nintendo announced the beloved CEO’s death on Monday.

Iwata was appointed president in 2002 after being a director at Nintendo’s Kyoto base. As a hands-on CEO, Iwata often participated in game events and later led the company to an international success. Nintendo is also well-known for being the world’s largest video game company by revenue. Satoru Iwata’s funeral service will be held on July 17 and the company refused to share details of his family.
