Wizards of the Coast, the company behind the games Dungeons & Dragons, Duel Masters, Avalon Hill, and of course, Magic: The Gathering, has announced on January 7, 2021 that the Magic: The Gathering Arena (MTG Arena) is going to start its Android early access on January 28.
Just recently, the official Twitter account of MTG Arena stated that Android early access for the game was already being rolled out. What the company meant by early access is “open testing”. But Wizards of the Coast has other words for it – “this isn’t even our final form!”
The Android early access for Magic: The Gathering Arena or the MTG Arena app is available for all players with a compatible device. “The app will be accessible to players whose mobile devices meet our planned Android recommended specs,” stated the Wizards of the Coast.
Phones must meet or exceed the following specifications to participate in the Android early access of the MTG Arena:
Android Version: 6.0 (Marshmallow)
RAM: 4GB
Graphics API: OpenGL ES 3.0
Texture Compression: ETC2
Although the company set the game’s release on January 28, they noted that it may take some time for the game to appear on the Google Play Store.
“We will be releasing the app on January 28 as part of our scheduled maintenance. It may take some time for it to appear on the Google Play store, and it may appear in some regions before others,” explained the company.
According to Wizards of the Coast, they are aiming to make the game available on iOS, additional Android devices, and tablets later this year.
