Hey there! Welcome to TechToGraphy’s RetroView. In RetroView, we don’t review flagship devices, instead, we give fresh reviews to old tech devices that are still out and available for sale in the market up to this date. And right now, we have ASUS’ ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite Edition in the spotlight, all thanks to ASUS ZenTalk Philippines. ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite has been given to us for review but all the review, comments, and experience with the phone are my own.
What ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite has to Offer
To start off, let me show you first what ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite offers spec-wise. ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite has an internal storage of sixteen Gigabytes (16 GB) and it can support up to two Terabytes (2TB) MicroSD card. It also has a Google Drive that has one hundred gigabytes (100GB) free space for the duration of one (1) year.
The phone’s CPU is Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 Mobile Platform with 64-bit Quad-core Processor. And its GPU is Qualcomm Adreno 308. It has an Android N with new ASUS ZenUI 4.0.
ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite’s ASUS ZenUI 4.0 includes the following: ZenUI Safeguard, Fingerprint Sensor, SelfieMaster, Game Genie, and of course with the basic apps such as the camera, clock, calculator, and many more!
ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite Vs My Current ZenFone, ZenFone Max M2
As much as I would want to make a comparison between Deepsea Black, ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite which has been released in the year 2017 and the current flagship phone of ASUS this 2019, I don’t have the latest model to compare it with, but I’m going to compare it to my Midnight Black, ZenFone Max M2 which has been released by ASUS in the year 2018. Let’s start by comparing their size and dimensions.
As you can see on the photo, ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite, on the left, is a bit shorter than my ZenFone Max M2, on the right side. The ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite has a dimension of 6.13 by 2.99 inches with a screen that has a 5.5 inches HD display. The phone is 0.31 inches thick. While my ZenFone Max M2, on the other hand, has a dimension of 6.22 inches by 2.99 inches with a screen that has 6.3 inches HD display, and the phone is 0.30 inches. So, obviously, there is not much difference between the two ZenFones when it comes to their weight and dimensions.
When it comes to their weight, it’s very easy to tell that my ZenFone Max2 is heavier, since well, it’s physically bigger in dimension. ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite 144 grams while the ZenFone Max M2 is 160 grams.
When it comes to the camera ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite’s rear camera is 13 megapixels while ZenFone Max2’s main rear camera and second rear camera are 13 megapixels and 2 megapixels. ZenFone Max2’s camera is just a bit ahead, which means that ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite’s camera isn’t bad at all.
ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite Specialty
Well, well, well… The name of this phone’s model already says it all. ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite is a phone that is specialized in taking not just normal selfies but beautified selfies and wefies. But if you think that it would mean that your face will turn out to be too washed out in photos and lacking some important details such as your nose line and jawline, well I say, that could happen if you overdo adding on the beautification setting. But, I just want to emphasize that the level of beautification is all up to you.

You can entirely, manually adjust the beautification feature ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite has to offer. So if your photo turned you to a glowing alien-like creature, you might have messed up a bit on mixing all the tricks it’s beautification camera could do. With proper lighting, angle, and just a bit of adjustment, you can definitely capture a wonderful selfie and wefie using this phone. Also, as you can see at the screenshot, the phone has a BeautyLive feature which enables you to use the beauty camera of the phone while streaming live on either Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram.
ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite Camera
Since I’ve already mentioned the ASUS’ ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite’s beautification camera, let’s keep on exploring its cameras and I will also show you some of the photos I personally captured with this phone.
Front Camera
ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite’s Front Camera/Selfie Camera is 13 megapixels, with F2.0 aperture, and Softlight LED Flash. And the most special thing about its camera is that it has ASUS SelfieMaster technology for smart beautification in selfies, videos, and live streams. It’s PixelMaster camera modes are Auto (with low light and HDR features), Beauty, Portrait, Selfie Panorama, GIF Animation, and 9 various filters.
Beauty Camera
For its beauty camera, here are the things you can freely adjust and customize: complexion softening, skin toning, blemish removal, skin brightening, eye enlargement, and cheek slimming.

Rear Camera
Aside from ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite’s front camera or it’s selfie camera, I will also show what are the things to expect with its rear camera. First, do know that the phone’s rear camera captures 13-megapixel images and it has a phase detection auto-focus. I personally think that this phone’s rear camera is good since it produces great quality of photos without being edited or even just color-corrected.

ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite for Gaming
In today’s standard, a mobile phone, no matter what its specialty is, its capacity for gaming is one of the feature phone buyers always want to consider. So the question is, is ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite a good phone for gaming? Well, this would be the most interesting part for me as well if you’d ask me.
Well to be honest, since the phone is physically very thin and lightweight, it is very easy to hold on to. So if you are planning to play all day, it won’t tire your hands out from enjoying mobile games with ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite for such a long period of time. And for the capacity of the phone itself on supporting up-to-date games such as Mobile Legends, well there’s no problem with it either. It can support such a game just fine without experiencing errors or what knots throughout the game. So, relax, this phone is also for you if mobile gaming is part of your daily routine.
Overall Verdict
This phone is a good companion during travels, to be honest. It is very thin and it is light as well so it basically doesn’t add up to the weight of your bag or pocket whenever you plan to take it with you wherever you go.
Well, for me, as long as a phone could get a decent photo, both with its front and rear camera, and would actually let me play up-to-date mobile games, then it’s already a good deal for me. This phone has what I’m looking for on a phone, so overall, I would say that getting a ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite even in this year, 2019, is still worth it.
Plus, usually, flagship phones are more expensive than the previous models. So if you are planning to get yourself a ZenFone 4 Selfie Lite, go for it!
