Epic Games’ battle royale game Fortnite has recently been removed by App Store and Google Play from their stores.
This was since Epic has made an update, for both the iPhone and Android versions of the game, which lets its users use its own in-app payment system. The said system allows its users to pay Epic directly, bypassing the stores’ standards.
Apple was reportedly the first one among the two stores to have kicked the game out, followed by Google Play.
What Apple has to Say About this
According to Apple, based on their statement to The Verge, “…Epic Games took the unfortunate step of violating the App Store guidelines that are applied equally to every developer and designed to keep the store safe for our users.”
They have also mentioned that Epic has enabled a feature in its app which they have not reviewed or approved. Even so, the company expressed that they are still open to welcome Fortnite back.
“We will make every effort to work with Epic to resolve these violations so they can return Fortnite to the App Store.”
What Google has to Say About This
Since Epic has also implemented its own payment system in the Android version of Fortnite, Google also ended up going the same path as Apple, thus removing the game from its store.
On Google’s statement about the matter, as reported by TechCrunch, they stated, “While Fortnite remains available on Android, we can no longer make it available on Play because it violates our policies.”
However, almost akin to Apple, Google has expressed that they are still open to having Fortnite back.
“We welcome the opportunity to continue our discussions with Epic and bring Fortnite back to Google Play.”
How Epic Responded to the Stores’ Actions
Since Apple has blocked Fortnite from the App Store disables everyone to install and update the game on iOS devices, The Fortnite Team began to encourage their users to “join the fight against @AppStore on social media with #FreeFortnite”.
“Apple is keeping prices high so they can collect 30% of your payments, and is blocking Fortnite in order to prevent Epic from passing on the savings from direct payments to you!”

Other than their call to oppose Apple, Epic Games has filed legal papers in response to Apple.
They have also released a campaign video which they call the Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite. It premiered within Fornite itself and is now also available on Twitter, YouTube, and other platforms.
As for Google, as reported by The Verge and Business Insider, Epic Games has also filed suit against against them.
