In this timeline where technology is taking over everything- from the little things you’ve incorporated to your everyday life, down to the things you never knew you wanted until you’ve experienced it.
What if you were given the chance to experience your photographs in a new way? To see what’s behind it, or like to peek what’s inside it. Facebook is giving you just that.
FACEBOOK: HARBINGER OF DEPTH
Facebook has penetrated the scene of 3D! After the feature being announced at F8 in May, Facebook is on its way to become the “Harbinger of depth” by releasing their 3D photos option to add a surreal feel to your Iphone portrait photo mode shots.
HOW IT WORKS
Take the photo, then head on over to your status update tab, and then tap the 3D photos option. Everyone will then have the opportunity to view 3D photos, ultimately create them. And one of these days, it will be available for everyone.
It’s amazing (and ambitious) how Facebook is always on the mission to make our everyday News Feed dynamic, engaging, and interesting. How it started so simple with words and photographs, then came videos, and gave us the ability to broadcast live. They soon entered the 360 degree scene, and now they’re going 3D with their photos.
AI in FACEBOOK’S 3D PHOTOS
So maybe the question that’s lingering in your head right now is, how do they do it? It’s simple, Facebook utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a means of stitching photo layers to create a somewhat topographic-ish feel to your photo if you tilted your perspective. What does this mean though? Following AI, parallax differences (different lines of sight) will be utilized as a means of recreation of what’s behind the subject.
FACEBOOK 3D: FOR IPHONE USERS FOR THE MEANTIME
Since this option will only be released to iPhone users for the meantime, Facebook’s option and recommendations will only apply to IOS users for now. For you to create a killer 3D photo with your Iphone 7+, 8+, X, or XS; keep your chosen subject three or four feet away from you. Like how traditional layering works, it also applies here. Well-defined colors will make the separate layers work better for you. Watch for glass or plastic, though! As it tends to throw off and confuse the AI.
A NEW TREND IN SOCIAL MEDIA
This idea was originally made for making Virtual Reality (VR) content available to everyone. However, with the availability and relevance of VR still being low, it’s the ability of bringing an element of VR in our News Feed that will make the needed impact for Facebook. In this timeline where technology and creativity are always at play, Facebook, hosting an art-form of this kind, could possibly initiate a new trend in terms of how we socialize.
